Privacy and terms

Wheels Down is a free game. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking. We keep the minimum needed to run the game, and you can download or delete it at any time.

Who runs it

Wheels Down is run by Corey, an individual rather than a company, who is the data controller for the information below. Contact: corey@darkdesignstudio.co.uk.

What we store

A Pilot ID. A random code your browser makes the first time you visit. It isn't linked to your name, email or device.
Your guesses. Where you clicked, how long you took, your score, and which flights you've played (so you don't get the same one twice).
Your party name. Whatever you type when you join a party. Other players in that party see it. Offensive names are replaced automatically.
Party rooms. Who's in a room and the scores, while the game is on.

We don't store IP addresses. Cloudflare, which hosts the site, processes them to deliver pages and to block attacks.

Why

To run the game (scoring, not repeating flights, parties), to keep it working and secure, and to see in aggregate how the game plays so it can be improved. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing the game you've chosen to play, which carries little risk to you because the data is pseudonymous.

Storage on your device

We use your browser's local storage, not cookies, for your Pilot ID, your party name, your light or dark preference, and the party you're in. These are needed for the game to work, so there's no consent banner. Clearing your browser's site data removes them.

Who else handles it

Cloudflare hosts the site and its database as our processor. Data may be processed outside the UK under Cloudflare's data processing terms, which include the approved international transfer safeguards. Nobody else receives it. We don't sell or share data.

How long we keep it

Guesses and scores: 12 months, then deleted automatically.
Flight start times (the server's stopwatch for solo rounds): 30 days.
Party rooms: deleted 3 hours after the last activity.
Your Pilot ID and settings stay in your browser until you clear them.

Your rights

You can get a copy of your data, have it deleted, ask for it to be corrected, or object to how it's used. The quickest way is below; it acts on the Pilot ID in this browser. You can also email us. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Children

Wheels Down isn't aimed at children under 13 and doesn't ask anyone's age. There's no chat and no public profiles; party names are only visible to others in the same party.

Playing fair

Don't automate play, scrape the game, or try to overload it. Traffic that looks like abuse is slowed down or blocked.
Pick a name you'd be happy for strangers to see.
The game is provided as it is, for fun, without guarantees. Flight data can be wrong.

Security

Found a vulnerability? Please email corey@darkdesignstudio.co.uk before telling anyone else, and give us a reasonable time to fix it. We won't take action against good-faith research that avoids harming players or their data.
